love your Liver
Liver health impacts energy levels profoundly, as well as digestion and muscle mass. Your liver does so many things it would take several entire websites of this size to explain them all really well. Practically speaking, your liver is intimately involved in digestion, as well as absorption and metabolism of everything.
A healthy happy liver means;
- robust digestion,
- good tolerance with few or no allergies,
- high energy
- good muscle mass
- immune function.
And who doesn't want that? How can we help, support and maintain stellar liver health? Read on, kind reader.

eat clean Bad fats particularly stress the liver; avoid anything fried unless you fried it yourself in a liver friendly oil that can handle high heat; coconut is the best. Ghee and butter are also acceptable, as is palm oil (unrefined).
Of all the fats, coconut oil is the easiest to digest and metabolise, thanks to it's high content of healthy medium chain triglycerides. Butter fares well, in part due to it's generous content of short chain triglycerides, especially if it is from grass fed cows. Avoid all fried foods unless they are fried in coconut oil or ghee.Definitely a great idea to visit my Fats page on this site to get the whole scoop on fats. The detox pages on this site have my two favourite liver cleanse recipes! |
healthy supplements, herbsTaurine is a great liver supporting supplement. I take about 2 grams daily. Inositol, choline and l-methionine are synergistic lipotropics; they support fat metabolism within the liver. They are available combined in pill form.
Lemon peel (organic, please!) is phenomenal for the liver- blend with water and drink or grate into a salad or cooked veggies or any dish you can think of, to add it to. NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) is also remarkable for the liver. Take with an equal or greater amount of vitamin C. Himalaya herbs makes a powerful liver support product called LiverCare. |
reflexologyReflexology is surprisingly good for the liver - massage the liver area firmly yourself to heal and detox the liver and gall bladder. Start off slow, with just a few minutes to avoid a heavy detox reaction. Work your way up over the course of several days to more intense pressure and longer time. The more tender a spot is on your feet, the more you need to massage it (not overdoing it, especially in the beginning).
The liver area is under the ball of the foot, on the pinkie toe side, on your RIGHT foot; the same side of the body as your liver. |
