Men- I have to start the page with the wonders of zinc; but first- let us honour a proud Canadian man, the Right Honourable, distinguished gentleman Mr. Ed the Sock; no man's page would feel complete without him!
Zinc
Be sure to get enough, since a deficiency lowers testosterone. Lower testosterone levels mean lower sperm count, less libido, or sex drive, and reduced erectile performance. Optimum testosterone levels are good for drive, mood, and muscle mass, as well as lowering fat mass.
How much is enough? A typical guy would do well to get 20-30mg from his supplements. An active guy; more like 40- 50mg. If one is very sexually active, add more, since each ejaculation has been determined to cause a pretty big zinc loss requiring an extra dietary 10mg or so per 'episode'. So, remember, Zinc for your Dink (I can't take credit for this helpful phrase- I first heard it from Daryl Wolfe, and subsequently from a distinguished Urologist). Please note that long term use of zinc necessitates taking a small dose of copper, to maintain zinc-copper ratios in your body. I take 1 or 2 mg of copper daily and around 30mg of zinc.
Hitting your 40's
Many men in their 40's and beyond have lamented to me about their virility not being what it once was. A cruel irony played on us by the gods is that women hit their sexual peak in their 30's (though peak fertility for women is in the early 20's) while men hit theirs at around 18. What can you do as an older male? The Yellow Book, an ancient Kama-sutra like Chinese text sheds much light on men's sexual health, some points of which I will share further down, and modern research backs up a lot of what the Yellow Book claims. Mark Wilson is a man running a site geared for older men (he's one himself) which is great. Really, it's fantastic and the guys I have steered towards his site have sung his praises! Check out boost-your-low-testosterone.com. He gives out a free E book. Get it and learn!
Andropause
Andropause is the gradual decline in testosterone experienced by many men "of a certain age", with a concomitant increase in estrogen, body fat and misery. Fight back! Do the anti-ageing stuff I mention on the anti-age page, and definitely do what you can with herbs, outlined below and heavy weightlifting. Weightlifting intensely boosts testosterone and growth hormone. No jogging - pick up some weights! And see what Mark Wilson has to say, on his site given above.

Bedroom Performance
Many clients want to know what they can do to enhance erectile performance. Start by getting enough zinc, also be sure to be well hydrated. Drinking enough water is crucial for good blood volume and circulation, both of which are key, for erectile performance. Working out will naturally raise testosterone levels, as well as circulation. Taking a 'yang'. or male tonic can often be helpful- go with large doses of Korean, and Siberian ginsengs, (Canadian ginseng is good if you are prone to high blood pressure or tense) or better yet, a testosterone boosting herbal product, like 'testo- boost', sold on the metabolicdiet.com website, and also from bodybuilding.com. My uncle, Dr Mauro Di Pasquale, medical review officer, has some heavy hitting products on those sites.
See my notes under the sexual healing section, and mass section, for more on test levels. Also in the SEXual healing section, is my 500mph formula, which you can put together yourself, with stuff you can find in any health food store. Lifting heavy weights, for relatively short workouts is a major growth hormone and testosterone booster. Boosting test definitely boosts bedroom olympics. Excessive exercise, especially long term/ long distance cardio lowers testosterone. So keep all your workouts intense, and never over one hour (20 minutes of cardio is plenty, if you do it at all- just do it intensely, so that you cannot go past 20 minutes for optimal testosterone response).
And sleep enough, to lower cortisol- a major enemy of testosterone!
Do you like living? Then don't do Viagra. It kills men- most of whom have no prior history of heart disease! Do not believe the hype about it, that it "only kills men with previous heart conditions"- Truth is most men who have died on Viagra had no previous heart problems. Ditto for any other drug for potency- they all suck for your health. Just say no to Cialis, Levitra and any other fancy-named toxic garbage pharmaceuticals.
Detox, follow anti-aging protocols on this website. If you have a progressive Dr., get your test levels checked if you are over 40 - HRT with real injectable Rx testosterone helped one 50 year old man I know set off fireworks in the bedroom time and time again with his younger Latina new friend. Personally, I agree with Dr Mercola and also Mark Wilson, mentioned above that most men can naturally raise their testosterone production quite a bit, which is always preferable to Rx injectable testosterone, but for some men, bio-identical hormone replacement via injections or patches can be a last ditch solution. Do give natural methods a fair try first. Do keep in mind that if you boost testosterone naturally, you will be rocking and rolling. While testosterone injections and patches can help, they will shrink your testicles severely, eliminate sperm count to near zero, and create a dependency. So I urge you to go the natural route ; )
Horny Goats and TCM
The Chinese lore goes something like this; A shepherd noticed a certain goat in his flock that was quite randy with the lady goats. He also noticed this same goat eating a particular herb, which to this day is called horny goat weed, in common language. It is available in pill form, at a steep price. I would rather get large doses of this well-known Yang tonic, for cheap. In the Chinese pharmacopia, Yin Yan Huo (Epimedium, botanically, or Horny Goat Weed) is recognised as a top, if not THE top Yang tonic.
So, getting back to cheap- just ask for Yin Yan Huo in your friendly neighbourhood Chinese herb store. I paid $3.00, for a large whack of neatly stacked, dried crude herb. Makes a nice tea. Other herbs that are worth a shot are Yohimbe, Maca, and Ginseng (Siberian, Korean, and Canadian are all different, experiment and see which you like).
The Yin and Yang of sex
My TCM Dr (on my Anthony + Friends page) was explaining to me that Yang energy is involved in getting an erection, while Yin energy is involved in lasting longer and for semen production. To increase your sexual energy effectively means ramping your "Chi" in both Yin and Yang. Maca is a good tonic of both yin and yang energy. The Chinese have had the Yellow Bpook mentioned above, also called the "Suwen" since around the time of Jesus, and it goes into great detail about building male sexual power, describing sexually trained monks who could perform coitus with several (often hired) women in a row in a manner that raised their Chi or life essence as well as that of all their partners. It is the "Kama Sutra" of China if you will, and a book which is far advanced in it's physiological understanding, from a TCM (energy balance) point of view. It explains that women are sexually superior to men, and also how women are more Yin while men are more Yang. It goes into detail on how to optimise overall health, with sexual energy transmutation and sharing; men receiving Yin and a woman receiving yang through sexual and sensual practices. More modern Tao/ yellow Book authors maintain that the internal sexual practices covered in those ancient wise texts are applicable to all; gay, bi and straight alike. The partner-based sexual energy cultivation methods discussed in the various incarnations of the Suwen however are male + female. With the rise of Communism under Mao, much of China's rich history, including the "Yellow Book" or Suwen were severely repressed, hidden, or banned.

Morning Wood
Waking up with wood is a good sign, like your cell phone telling you it's fully charged. If you hormonally do things well then morning wood is a fairly good indicator you're on the right track.
Dopamine levels in your brain are linked to testosterone, according to Mark Wilson, which may explain a recent situation I was in. Speaking with a psychiatrist friend a while back who happens to be a medical intuitive, I was asked how was I feeling. I replied it had been months since I felt my usual happy state. She also asked about my sexual health and I realised that my morning indicator was kind of absent. I didn't take the specific Rhodiola that she recommended, not finding it, but what I did find worked plenty well; AOR Ortho Adapt. This stuff lowers cortisol and helps restore you if you're a little or a lot burned out. Turns out I was burned out without really realising it or admitting it to myself. Within a day, my thermostat was rising! And the improvements built up further over time, continuing with the product I am pleased to say. Remember that cortisol antagonises testosterone. The less cortisol, the better. You can experiment with Tyrosine, an amino used by your body to produce dopamine and see how you feel. Best taken in the morning as dopamine can be stimulating. PS more on cortisol on the sleep page of my site.
So pay attention to your morning "readings" they can indicate more than you think!

Lowering Cortisol
If your adrenals are not fatigued, ie; burned out, then all the other tips on this page and Mark Wilson's excellent site and E-book are an always, a permanent given, for men who want to support healthy natural hormone levels and potency as well as overall health. I'm just saying, sometimes there's more to the picture.
Ortho Adapt comes in regular and vegan versions. Get the regular, it's stronger. Also quite amazing for adrenals is Anti Stress, by Ultimate.

Don't poison your libido!
I just spoke with a good friend of mine, a man in his early 50's who is a working out machine! This guy is in fantastic shape and looks maybe 40. Very fit, very cool guy. So we're talking, catching up on his life and exploits and he told me for months he'd been depressed and had next to no libido, and very little sex that was much less than stellar. Wondering why, he happened to search sweeteners in some products he was taking every day; protein powder with acesulfame K and a "nitrous oxide or NO pump" type pre workout product with aspartame and acesulfame K. A quick internet search revealed some issues with hormonal health in men and nervous system issues, including depression!
He never asked me about those products in the past or I would have warned him to avoid toxic sweeteners. What I didn't know was that they are associated with hormonal problems. The toxic neurological and immune problems are all I had heard of before. The happy ending is that a short time after discontinuing those toxic products, my man called up and old flame and they had some together time and he said things went VERY well. To quote him, he said he "felt like a sex machine". So keep your sex machine greased and ready for action! No artificial sweeteners! Stick to unflavoured unsweetened proteins or buy products from brands like Progressive, who use only stevia and other natural truly safe sweeteners! And do not chew gum, unless it's a natural gum with no chemicals! Health stores carry gums like Pür, Glee, Spry and other healthy non toxic gum. Sucralose (Splenda), acesulfame, aspartame all SUCK do not consume them; your entire health is at risk from these terrible chemicals. If you want pop, either drink real pop sweetened with sugar, or go for Zevia pop, sweetened with stevia. I do hate sugar, but rest assured that sugar and even corn syrup are far less damaging than any chemical sweetener.

Older Men, Younger Babes
An Indian woman recounted to me that she knew an older gent who was seeing a much younger lady, who had a healthy libido. In his efforts to keep up with her appetite, he had been recommended to try Shilajit, a mineral pitch from India. It is sort of like a muddy peat moss, so consists of rotted vegetable matter layer, and dirt. It is renowned in Ayurveda as a source of minerals and strength. With modern testing, we know that it has many beneficial organic acids, among them fulvic acid, which is an amazing mineral absorption helper, and also a heavy metal detoxifier.
So this older gent in question began taking a teaspoon a day (tastes like pungent dried mud), and reported that he and his mate were quite pleased . . .
Fertility
In couples that can not conceive, men and women statistically share similar potential for improvement (or blame for the problem, however you want to word it). You can up your sperm count and sperm quality by taking antioxidants. Vitamin C is the most proven, but don't be stingy; throw in vitamin E, and selenium as well. And eating more fruits and vegetables will greatly increase your antioxidant status. Taking extra enzymes, particularly pancreatin has been research proven to strengthen sperm, making them better able to penetrate an egg. Detoxing your body from xenoestrogens and toxins in general will go a long way to promote fertility and health in both sexes.Go to the detox page, and do your homework; your body will thank you!
Xenoestrogens
Chemicals which mimic estrogen in our bodies are called xenoestrogens. They include many plastics (especially plastic wrap), some pesticides and herbicides, and some industrial chemicals, like PCB's. Even when banned, these things bio-accumulate in the food chain, and persist in the environment for many years (fields may have high measurable levels even after 30 years or more without chemical application- our seas and lakes are all contaminated; some more than others).
Xeno's, the Bad News
Xenoestrogens are the reason why we are seeing animals with serious reproductive/ sexual problems. Alligators in parts of Florida are born with micro-penises, and few sperm. Whales (who are sometimes sterile from environmental contamination, just like us) have been found with testes that resemble ovaries in function. Male fish with egg protein production in their bodies have been found. There are other tragic animal examples of our planetary poisoning but I'll stop here. Humans today have approximately half the sperm counts as were commonly found in the 1940's.
the Good News
We can reduce or detox xenoestrogens out of our bodies through detoxification methods- see the detox pages in this site for particulars, and research evidence. Reducing intake; Avoid new plastic bottles- buy water in glass, or at least in recycled jugs (the 18 litre kind). Or filter your tap water (even a Brita is acceptable). Wash anything well that has been wrapped in plastic, and use glass jars for leftovers, NEVER plastic wrap. Do not use non stick pans- best bet is glass or ceramic cookware.
I use glass cookware, being careful not to burn food when cooking. If something does burn, the sodium hydroxide that I clean my dishes with dissolves burnt food quite well. Use gloves, for God's sake, if you clean with sodium hydroxide (also called lye, or NaOH), since it can literally eat your skin right off! It is a non toxic cleaner, which actually improves lake water quality- lakes tend to be acidic from acid rain- NaOH is a strong base (alkalises). More on cleaning on the Planet page.
ESTROGEN and MEN
We all produce estrogen, some more than others. Estrogen is part of the negative feedback loop, affecting testosterone production, largely through hypothalamic/ pituitary signaling to the testes, involving leutenising hormone, gonadotropin, and others. What this means is that rising estrogen levels = lowering testosterone levels, in men. Bodyfat, or adipose tissue in both sexes is a major producer of estrogen. Some of our estrogen is produced in our liver and other tissues, as a metabolite of testosterone. This means that fatter guys will produce more estrogen than leaner guys, and therefore will have less testosterone, due to the negative feedback, described above. Keep yourself lean if you're a man! It is a big deal for hormonal health. Natural estrogen blockers, like DIM (di-indole methane) and I3C (indole 3 carbinol) can be very helpful for some men, and are often found in good herbal testosterone boosters. Note that cruciferous family vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, kale, collards and brussel sprouts contain DIM.
Plant Estrogens
can be good! (to the rescue?)
Plant estrogens are also called phyto sterols, and include many fatty substances, like sterols, serolins, sitosterol, oryzanol, and many others. They are all weakly estrogenic, some more than others.
They are good for us, in a lot of ways. Plant sterols, or estrogens, are weakly estrogenic, so, in our bodies they compete with real estrogen. Since men do have some, the right amount of plant estrogens will bind to some estrogen receptors, preventing some of our real estrogen from binding. That is an anti-estrogenic effect, since plant estrogens are weaker than real estrogen. This same competition happens with xenoestrogens, and plant estrogens. Xenoestrogens are very potent, as in several times more potent than any natural estrogens, and so are enemies of men and women, but especially men!

Nuts for your nuts
There is human and animal evidence that high sources of plant sterols, like nuts, seeds, flax meal, and soy, are very competitive with xenoestrogens, reducing their ill effect on reproductive health, and sex organ cancers. Only consume fermented say, like miso, tempeh and natto. Not soy milk or tofu. Unless you like your food allergenic and difficult to digest.
Soy is something to be careful with, since it is commonly allergenic. The safest soy to consume is fermented soy. That means only miso, and tempeh. Limit soy milk (I hate tetra paks- they are plastic-lined), and tofu. Soy milk and tofu are vastly over rated. I do think that reasonable amounts of the fermented soy foods mentioned above are useful, in that they are anti-estrogenic, for guys, if eaten in moderation, and "anti-xenoestrogenic" for both sexes. I generally avoid soy altogether, since North America is a hotbed of GMO soy and therefore GMO contamination of even organic soy crops.
Do NOT Drink Beer
Beer raises prolactin levels, and that's bad because as prolactin goes up, testosterone goes down. Yikes! If you must, be very sparing on the beer, say one per week. Mind you, breastfeeding women would probably benefit from a beer or two daily, since the prolactin boost will help their milk production. Not that I am condoning breastfeeding moms to drink, just sayin'...
Drink hard licquor instead - be a man! lol. Seriously, alcohol is not a problem in moderate amounts, just not beer! By moderate, I mean 1- 2 drinks a day. Not more than 2 on any given day. If you drink a lot, but only once in a while, you can reduce some of the testosterone damage and general toxicity by taking 2 grams of vit C, and 500- 1000mg of niacinamide before during or right after drinking, along with plenty of water. Remember, alcohol kills, in excess, so be smart and enlist other's help in keeping you to a sober maximum that you decide before starting to drink.
You may say, ok fine, I'll just smoke up to get my jollies instead. Marijuana also lowers testosterone, so watch it! Yes it is less toxic than alcohol, by far, but not less so to your all important "test" levels. Alcohol raises cortisol especially if you go past 2 drinks per day. So don't, because cortisol going up means testosterone going down. Not good. I'd say 1 drink per day is good. 2 would be the max.
about your Prostate
Prostate health is very dependent on zinc, for a number of reasons. Sufficient zinc helps to minimise DHT production. DHT, or dihydrotestosterone is a metabolite of testosterone, which swells the prostate excessively, and also contributes to hair loss.
Saw Palmetto is a herb which helps to block DHT, but zinc is an essential mineral, so it gets top priority. Taking both is not a problem, in fact it is recommended for those with any prostate symptoms, such as frequent urination, incomplete voiding, and especially frequent night visits to the bathroom, interrupting sleep, to urinate. In more severe cases, urination will be difficult, with a slow stream of urine, and difficulty in completely emptying the bladder (incomplete voiding). Careful though, since saw palmetto seems to lower testosterone : ( so maybe stick with pumpkin seeds and brazil nuts.
Pumpkin seeds are also very beneficial for prostate health. Why, I couldn't tell you for sure, but trust me on this one. One older fellow, with severe symptoms once was told by his doctor that they should either surgically remove his prostate, or do a 'roto- rooter' job on him, where effectively, a larger hole is drilled through the prostate. The procedure is as gruesome as it sounds. So, this fellow asked for some time.
Please, all of us remember- your body is Yours. Do not be rushed or pressured into doing anything at all, unless you are good and ready and have satisfied yourself that you have all the info!
Getting back to this fellow's story; He found three men who had 'surgical intervention' to 'cure' their troubled prostates. One man was in diapers. The second couldn't get it up; complete erectile dysfunction. The third was fine.
Prostate Natural Rx that worked
Being understandably scared, this fellow started on 50mg of zinc, and a few handfuls of raw pumpkin seeds per day, as a result of his limited research into prostate health and natural therapies. He started feeling better in days. Months went by, and the man became free of any prostate symptoms; he was fine. He checked back with his doctor- tests confirmed what he already knew- he was fine, and not in need of any medical barbaric treatments.
Another guy told me that he reversed all his prostate troubles in one week, consuming a few handfuls of Austrian pumpkin seeds (way more efficacious than the pale China ones) and a few Brazil nuts daily.
Why are some penises bent? Can they be straightened?
Many years ago, working in a health store I received a call from a man about his bent penis, asking if there was anything natural he could do to help "fix" it. I had no idea at the time, and apologised that I wasn't able to provide any helpful info. I have since learned much more about health and also Peyronie's disease (scar tissue and shortening/ curvature of the penis).

Penises may be bent for a number of reasons;
-congenital curved shape (born with it)
-formation of scar tissue from injury (this is the more common and more treatable reason)
Injured Pensises
Can you break your boner? The answer is yes and no. An erection contains no bones, so we can't break it the way an actual bone may be broken, but, yes an erect penis can sustain injury especially when it is erect and unusual pressures may rupture or damage the erectile tissue. Injury causes scar tissue and subsequent contracture and often curvature, as well as possible length decreases. A common cause of injured penis is having sex with the woman on top and the penis missing her vagina and ramming against her body beside the vagina, causing a sudden bending of the erect tissue, and possible subsequent rupture of the erectile tissue or it's fascial coverings. If injury is severe, some medical types recommend surgery, an issue upon which I can't reliably comment, not having enough knowledge about penile injury and subsequent surgery.
DMSO is a naturally occurring solvent (sourced from tree sap, when they pulp trees for wood fibre or paper) with near-miraculous scar tissue dissolving properties.Vitamin E is also good for scar tissue, but how would one get vitamin E right into the tissues where it's needed, in a high concentration? By using a solvent ; ) What I would do if I had or even suspected Peyronies is the same protocol someone told me he used successfully on his CTS wrists;
FIRST apply vitamin E (crack open a couple of capsules and squeeze it out). This helps reduce the itchiness and irritation from DMSO, which according to the wrists fellow, could be an issue).
SECOND work in a few drops of DMSO (it's a thin runny liquid, available at better health food stores). Then work in a few more drops, seeing over time how much DMSO you can add and not be too itchy or irritated.
THIRD leave on, uncovered for at least 10 minutes, longer if you can, then rinse/ wipe off and you're done.
DMSO seems to work noticeably for other complaints such as skin and joint issues and scarring within days sometimes minutes. With longstanding scar tissue, don't expect overnight results but do be persistent and see. DMSO, in the loads of research I have seen is safe, as in 100% safe to put on, to drink, to bathe in, whatever you want. The only side effect is that it can be irritating and itchy, an effect which is far reduced if you first apply an EDIBLE oil. Edible because it is a solvent that literally carries whatever it's mixed with right into your body. So NO Kerri lotion or similar toxic drug store garbage. Only edible oils, and of course vit E which is an oily pill.
Anywhere on your body you intend to use DMSO on, please be very hygienic as there is some evidence that DMSO can transport bacteria or other pathogens into the body, so clean hands for sure and clean body surface for intended application.
Note that DMSO can be amazing for other conditions, like arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and old injuries that aren't healing well. Sclerosis, especially sclerodactlyly/ Dupuytren's contracture have also been helped tremendously with DMSO.

the male big "O"
I was working the health store shift when a very inebriated young man came in and was talking about the holy grail of cumming, bragging about how far the camera was from him as he was having an intimate Skype chat with his lady and he "ruined" the camera, even though it was more than an arm's length from him. He was very enthused about the "Holy Grail of cumming" that he had discovered, but in his alcohol influenced state, had difficulty recollecting what the ingredients were that had given him such an extraordinary orgasmic trajectory. He did recall lecithin being one ingredient, though.
Of course I took interest in such matters since any nutritional intervention that increases ejaculate volume is probably good overall for men's health and fertility. In fact I found some information about the "Holy Grail" and lecithin is a key ingredient. If I were to put together the recipe based on my findings and background, I'd say the Grail consist of;
1. Don't cum too often, as abundantly covered in Mark Wilson's site mentioned above.
2. Lecithin from sunflower source, a tablespoon daily. In a shake is fine or just shake it up in a jar with some juice or yogourt and water.
3. Arginine, citruline, or ornithine. I find about 500 - 1000 mg of ornithine is well tolerated by my gut. Any of these three aminos benefit the liver, raise nitrous oxide production in the body, which is key for heart health as well as erectile function, and even help sleep when taken before bed via their growth hormone stimulating properties. There's solid evidence that ornithine improves our sleep.
4. Zinc as mentioned above. Super important for men.
5. Pygeum, an African herb well known for both aiding the prostate and increasing ejaculate volume.
6. Horny goat weed, aka epimedium, aka yin yan huo. A teaspoon of this stuff daily is great for men's vitality overall as well as just about every aspect of sexual function. Find it in powdered form at Herbie's Herbs, 556 Queen west and yes they do mail order.
Beware of saw palmetto - it does also help the prostate but tends to lower testosterone, so it is not on my man's healthy herbs list.
